Salix Homes. Releasing the potential

Lower Broughton burglary reduction project makes a mark!

Together with the Police and the council's Community Safety Unit we have been working to distribute property marking kits in Lower Broughton to help deter burglary in the local area.

The kits work by marking personal belongings with an invisible liquid which has a unique code that is registered to a specific property. This enables the police to return stolen goods which have been recovered, back to their original owners. Large orange stickers are also provided to put in windows to warn potential burglars that your possessions have been marked and are therefore traceable.

As a result officers from Salix Homes have been working over the last few months with colleagues from other local housing organisations like Contour Homes, the police and the Housing Crime Reduction Team to encourage Lower Broughton residents to take up the offer of a free property marking kit.

The ‘Salix Homes to You' trailer hit Mocha Parade on a couple of mornings before Christmas and as a result more than 100 households have signed up for the free kits, which are worth around £50 each.

Councillor Lancaster, Lead Member for Community Safety commented, "I am very pleased with the partnership approach that has been taken between Salford Crime & Disorder Reduction Partnership and Salix Homes to distribute the Selecta DNA forensic property marking kits in Lower Broughton. I hope that this approach can be replicated in other parts of Salford to ensure that as many residents as possible are protected from the threat of burglary"

If you live in the Lower Broughton area and are interested in taking up this offer please contact either Danielle Sheldon on 0161 779 8026 or Mary Rolfe on 0161 779 8965. But hurry before all the kits have gone!
