Seedley cottage garden to get a grand launch!
Salix Homes have recently provided initial advisory support and coordinated funding resources to enable the Seedley and Langworthy Trust (SALT) to work with the Granoseed Residents Association in turning a brown site on Grange Street into a fantastic community garden. The work on the garden has just been completed and SALT and residents association members are working towards organising a launch party for the garden. The Mayor and the Mayoress have been invited to cut the ribbon and officially open the garden on Saturday the 6th March 2010 at 2pm. All the residents who will have access to the garden, will be invited to the launch and there will be live music, free refreshments, and some activities for the kids.
The launch party will be a good opportunity for new residents to get to know the residents association and they will be encouraged to get involved in the maintenance and up keep of the new garden and the alley way. The Chair of the Granoseed Residents Association, Gail Skelly, is very excited about the new garden and she is already thinking of organising a community event involving the new school pupils in a mosaic project. This is to add creative designs of mosaic artwork to the concrete planters in the garden. The group is also planning to involve their young residents in growing vegetables and herbs and several apple, cherry, and plum trees have already been planted in the garden.

Funding was secured from the Central Salford Urban Regeneration Company (URC), the North West Development Agency (NWDA) and Salix Homes. SALT's Outreach Development Officer, Meral Mercan-Darby, project managed the garden and worked with the residents association for over one year. The residents had involvement in the project at all stages from designing the layout, deciding on the wall, railings, and gates to choosing the materials, such as paving stones, planters, type of trees and plants.
The group is very excited about their new garden and already looking forward to entering the In Bloom competitions this year.
