Salix Homes. Releasing the potential

Spring clean up for Gainsborough!

Salix Homes Broughton Team used 28 May 09 to give Gainsborough Street and surrounding areas an environmental clean up as part of our WIN Day initiative. The area is earmarked for future block improvements, which could give local properties a welcome facelift.

The diverse community experience conintual problems with rubbish and fly tipping. Salford City Council's refuse service is keen to work with residents on how to use the different bins. In responce to these environmental issues, Salix Homes co-ordinated a clean up of the area. We worked along side Talk Broughton, Salford City Council and Greater Manchester Police to fill in questionaires with residents on their bin requirements and veiwpoints on the problem alleyways.

We also provided the service of our mini-sweeper and a van to remove large items of waste. Meanwhile, officers from Salford City Council's Waste Awareness Team, Environmental Crime Team and Refuse Collection Services removed contaminated bins, cleaned out alleyways and completed home visits.

More than 100 questionaires have been completed so far. Residents have put forward suggestions for more bins, educating people on how to use bins and stronger enforcement for those who continue to dump rubbish. The information will be used to help Salford City Council plan a long term bin and recycling strategy for the area.
