Equipment and adaptations
What are equipment and adaptations?
Adaptations are changes to your home that allow you to live more independently. If you have a problem with mobility, for example if you have trouble climbing the stairs or getting into and out of your bath we may be able to adapt your home to enable you to do this more easily.
How can equipment and adaptations help you?
If you have a disability or a health condition that makes living in your home difficult, making some adaptations to your home or getting extra support may help you. An occupational therapist will look at your circumstances and can recommend the type of adaptation(s) needed.
How do I request adaptations?
If you feel that you may need an adaptation you can contact our Supporting Neighbourhoods team on 0161 779 8040 or email Supporting.Neighbourghoods@salixhomes.org. If your request is related to a major adaptation you will need to be visited by an Occupational Therapist who will assess the most appropriate solution for your needs. If your request is related to a low cost adaptation this may well be provided without the need for a visit from an Occupational Therapist.
Salix Homes are also improving council homes so they meet and exceed the government's ‘Decent Homes' standard. This work will ensure that all Salix Homes' properties will be energy efficient, warm, weather-proof and have modern facilities. When we are carrying out some of the home improvement work, we may be able to make the adaptations to your home to minimise any disruption. For example, if you are due to have a kitchen or bathroom refurbished and an adaptation is needed in either the kitchen or bathroom, Salix Homes will endeavour to carry out the adaptation as part of the refurbishment.
It is also possible, depending on the improvement work due to be done to your home, to fit light switches at a lower level, raise the height of plug sockets and fit alarms for the hearing impaired. Our surveyors at Salix Homes can discuss this with you when they visit to carry out a survey.Contact details
