Our Future
About our Audit Commission Inspection
The Housing Inspectorate is part of the Audit Commission and reviews and assesses public sector services including local government and housing. They inspected Salix Homes on 3 February until 17 February 2010.
The Audit Commission, awarded us a ‘two star' rating and judged our services to be 'good' with ‘excellent prospects for improvement'.
This result enables us to access £70 million of Government funding which will be used for investment in homes and neighbourhoods across Central Salford and Swinton over the next five years.
Discussions are being held with the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) around the timing of the release of this money.
The Audit Commission inspection involved visiting neighbourhoods and reviewing documents to look at the services provided by the organisation. Staff from Salix Homes, Salford City Council, and contractors were interviewed as part of the process.
The report highlights a number of our strengths including our strong customer focus and easy access to services. The inspectors also recognised a high level of customer satisfaction and praised the support and help we provide to vulnerable residents, particularly during the extreme weather conditions experienced this winter.
A number of areas for improving services were identified by the inspectors including the need to make sure customers know what standard of service they can expect, reducing the need for customers to make more than one telephone call before their query is dealt with and ensuring greater consistency in cleaning blocks of flats. We intend to address these issues over the coming months.
