Local people given choices on their homes

Local people are being given the chance to choose how they would like their houses to look as part of a multi-million pound project to improve homes in Central Salford.
Salix Homes, Salford City Council's housing management company for the area is asking residents to pick materials and finishes they would like to see in their new kitchens and bathrooms.
At an event at Buile Hill Park in Salford, residents were shown samples of kitchen cupboards, worktops, flooring and tiles which could be used to update their homes.
They were asked to rank each design in order of their favourite to come up with six options.
Salix Homes will then be going out to their tenants in Central Salford with the chosen styles for them to decide on the final designs which will be put forward for their homes
Salix Homes is also asking residents how they think the work should be completed and if they would like it to be done in stages or all at once.
Should an Audit Commission inspection be successful work on the homes will start on the homes next year to bring them up to the Decent Homes Standard by 2014.
Salix Homes was launched last July to manage 10,600 council homes in Central Salford and work with partners and local people to help with the regeneration of the area.
It has been working with the community over the past year to allow them to help shape the future of their area.
Salix Homes customer Shirley Quinn of Fortran Close in Central Salford said: "It's nice to be able to have a say and know what's going to happen to our homes.
"The styles look really nice and there's more designs than I thought there would be."
Added Joe Willis, director of investment and regeneration for Salix Homes: "Bringing houses up-to-date is a major project for Central Salford and it's important to involve our customers to help shape the plans.
"We're going to be working closely with the community and want to make sure our customers make decisions along the way."
