Salix Homes. Releasing the potential

1st Response and Security Services

Salix Homes is committed to making sure you feel safe in your home and neighbourhood. We have a number of different services, particularly if you live in one of our apartment blocks, to help make our neighbourhoods a safer place to live and work.

Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV)
Our closed-circuit television (CCTV) system monitors day-to-day activities in the communal areas of multistorey properties and parts of housing estates. This is all controlled from the CCTV control room. Using CCTV helps us:

  • To protect areas and premises used by the public to deter and detect crime.
  • To help identify offenders so the police can arrest and prosecute them.
  • To reduce anti-social behaviour.
  • To reduce the fear of crime.

Our trained staff manage this service and we have procedures in place to protect your privacy. Laws covering this issue include The Data Protection Act, The Human Rights Act, The Freedom of Information Act and the Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act.

All the operators we employ are subject to criminal record checks and must follow the council's data protection rules. We work closely with the police when criminal activity or anti-social behaviour is detected.

Camera observations can also be used to take legal action against a Salix Homes tenant and this could result in an eviction.

Making Your Home Secure
If you live in a flat, you will know that our concierge service and door entry systems helps make the flats you live in more secure. Even so, it's down to you to make sure your home is secure. If your block has a door entry system, always make sure the doors are locked behind you and not left propped open.

Make sure you lock all the windows and doors in your home when you go out. Leave a light on to deter burglars. If you're going away, cancel the milk and papers so it doesn't look as if your home is empty. If you're going to be away for some time, you can inform your local police station. Please also inform us. See the Contact Us page for details.
