Salix Homes. Releasing the potential

Sing if you DARE: launch of young people's fund

Local music and dance artists will perform at sites across Salford to celebrate the launch of the DARE fund for young people looking to get into training or employment.

Young people, between 16 and 24, can apply for funding through DARE to achieve a goal. The goal could be getting into employment, doing some training, taking a college course or volunteering.

The money could be used to buy tools for an apprenticeship or books for a college course.

And to celebrate the launch, local music and dance artists will be performing at public sites across Salford, including Duchy Pod, The Beacon Centre, Fit City Broughton, and Salford Lads' Club.

The street dance troupe Ant Pharm, choreographers behind the Shockarellas (Sky1's Got to Dance), The MC Madrush (Warehouse Project) MC Skittles and DJ Showdem, from Unity Radio, will be performing to celebrate the DARE fund and five years of Salix Homes.

The fund is administered by the Salix Homes Youth Group, and they will choose who the funding goes to.

Salford City Council Jobs Fair, for all ages, will also be held during the official launch event at the Duchy Pod. The Prince's Trust will attend to promote volunteering, and the council's Health Improvement Team will be handing out free smoothies.

Salix Homes' Director of Customer and Neighbourhood Services Sue Sutton said: "The DARE fund demonstrated our dedication to young people and community projects.

"The fund is a unique way for local young people to make the most of themselves by working towards a goal.

"It's great to have some local artists join us to put on the five shows for young residents and get behind the fund and what it stands for."
