Helping hand with finances for residents

work pays...money counts launch

Residents in Central Salford are getting a helping hand with their finances from their housing landlords.

Salix Homes, Salford City Council's housing management company in the area has launched a financial support pack to give residents tips on how to save money as times get harder with the credit crunch.

Aimed at first time tenants and vulnerable residents, the pack will help people to pay rent and set up home budgeting plans.

Salix Homes has worked with local organisations River Valley Credit Union and Greater Manchester Moneyline on the pack which contains information on opening a bank account, saving and borrowing and claiming benefits.

It also provides people with information that will signpost them to a range of financial services.

Sue Sutton, Head of Neighbourhood Services at Salix Homes said: "With the recent economic problems, people are now having to watch how they spend and look after their money more than ever.

“We ‘re aware that some of our residents may be going through difficult times and we want to break down the barriers that some people may face by working with local organisations to support our customers in every way we can.”

Drop in events are being held for residents in Central Salford who would like support with their finances.

Sessions will be held at 10 - 12noon and 2 - 4pm on:

•6 August at the neighbourhood office on St Simon Street, Salford, M3 7ES

•7 August at the neighbourhood office on Churchill Way, Salford, M6 5AY

The financial information packs are available to all residents in Central Salford and are being launched at River Valley Credit Union on the 4 August.
